Frank enjoyed widespread media coverage during the last months, and hopefully this momentum will end one of the United States' most unpopular bills. The Congressman has made several comments on international media regarding the anti online casino bill, and it seems that Frank might be the person all online casino fans have been waiting for.
The anti online casino bill was enacted bank in October 2006. The act prohibits any financial transactions to be made with online casino firms and online gambling companies. The act virtually chased the online casino industry away from America, as the industry now focuses on the European market. Many people believe that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was 'cheated' into law, as it was attached to an irrelevant but "must pass" bill regarding harbor security. All in all, the Democrat Congressman seems to be determined; "I want to get it undone. I plan to file legislation," said Frank.
Frank said that he will start acting on the matter within the next two weeks, but mentioned that lifting the ban over online casino gambling in the U.S. will not be an easy thing to do. Last month the World Trade Organization while ruling in a dispute between the U.S. and Antigua has set restrictions that will be difficult to overcome. As time passes, it seems that Frank is not alone. The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act is not only unpopular within the United States, but there are other, international, authorities that find it to be a bit off. The World Trade Organization has ruled that the ban violates international laws as betting on Horse Racing is still allowed under it. With a new Democratic front, everyone in the online casino industry is hoping that this episode in the legal history of the United States will be over soon.
