Online casino gambling advertisement seems to be a hot topic in legislator houses around the world. When no legislation regarding the online casino exists in a country, public representatives are trying to get some extra points by banning the promotion of online casino sites. Recent legislation in the United States has caused many countries to rethink about their approach towards the online casino world, and there are as many opinions as there are countries. The latest events take place up north in Canada, where a provincial bill amending consumer protection was used to try and stop the advertisement of online gambling sites in the province of Ontario. Thankfully, reason was victorious this time, and the notion did not pass.

The whole thing began when an online casino gambling firm wanted to promote its business, and use an advertisement agency that would promote the firm's gambling site throughout the province. Some politicians said that advertising an online casino is illegal and that no such campaign can materialize without breaking the law. Scoring some points by portraying the online gambling industry as a foul entity is something that we are almost used to when politicians are concerned. The Ontario representatives wanted to use the Consumer Protection Act of 2002, and claimed that they were protecting consumers from falling into the nets of online casino operators. A notion that represents those individuals' vast understanding of the online gambling industry.

The Social Policy Committee reviewed the suggested bill in mid-November and decided that it presented sufficient ambiguities and conflict with the Canadian Criminal Code and therefore will not be considered at this time. Behind the committee's decision stands a lobby of people that support the online casino industry, and helped the Social Policy Committee see though the weak attempt. For now, online casino operators can promote their online business in the province of Ontario, and hopefully other jurisdictions can take the Ontario case as an example, and look into anti online gambling notions for what they are - a limitation of the public's freedom.
