A recent survey by a well-known American research firm has shown that the prohibition of online casino gaming is unpopular among U.S. residents. The survey, in which over 30,000 individuals took part, revealed that 78 percent of participants are against banning online casino gaming in the U.S. and do not want the federal government imposing legislation to restrict what is commonly seen as a recreational activity.
The online casino poll was conducted by Zogby International, a research company that regularly interviews a diverse cross-section of U.S. residents on a wide range of topics. The research firm stated that the margin of error in their statistical analysis was 0.6 percentage points. In the survey, almost 80 percent of participants stated their opposition to the pending bills in Congress to ban online casino gambling.
30,054 registered voters were interviewed by Zogby between 1-14 March, 2006 and more than three-fourths of the participants stated that the federal government should not be entitled to restrict private internet use. Several initiatives attempting to outlaw online casino gambling have received wide media coverage in recent weeks. One of the most highly publicized was the attempt by Republican Senator Bob Goodlatte, whose bill to ban payments to online casino operators was recently debated in the U.S. Senate. |
