The mid-term elections in the US may have provided the potential hope that online casino groups and stateside online casinos fans have been waiting for. With the Democratic Party taking control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate, online casino firms and players alike are praying that the recent legislation and passing of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act will become null and void and be eradicated from the list of American laws.

CEO of MGM Mirage, Terry Lanni, believes there is a good chance of this occurring. The law forbids banks, credit card companies, and online payment systems to process payments to online casino sites. According to Lanni, the bill 'makes no sense whatsoever...the Republican Party pandered to the religious right.' Many in the online casino industry, including the online gambling fans in the US, feel the way Lanni does regarding this bill.

Lanni also stated that MGM wishes to see a study commissioned to examine whether online casino gaming can be regulated successfully US. Lanni is also the current chair of the American Gaming Association and is expected to decide in December whether to pursue legislation calling for such a study. According to the chairman of Britain's Gaming Commission, the country wants to be second to none when it comes to the regulation of online casino gambling. Therefore, the study could also look into the success or failure of the UK's attempt to regulate online casino gaming. The regulation is scheduled to begin next year.
