Despite a Court of Rome ruling that stipulates the ban imposed on online casino site Astrabet by AAMS should be lifted, the Italian regulator has shown no sign of compliance so far. Amministrazione Autonoma dei Monopoli de Stato (AAMS) made headlines following its decision to block Italian casino players' access to offshore online casino sites. Controversy this week intensified after Italian media reported that the regulator has to date disregarded an order by the Court of Rome to lift its ban on online casino site, Astrabet.
Astrabet initiated legal proceedings against AAMS for allegedly failing to follow correct legal procedures for imposing the ban. The Court of Rome subsequently found in favor of the online casino firm and ordered that the block on Astrabet's online casino be lifted. However, further litigation is expected following claims from Astrabet that AAMS is still to comply with the ruling. In turn, AAMS has presented its own case to the Court, requesting an appeal against the ruling and has requested the judge to suspend his decision on the online casino blockade.
Astrabet was the first online casino firm to initiate legal proceedings against the Italian regulator and as such, has set a valuable precedent for others. According to a spokesperson for the online casino company, the AAMS' failure to comply with the Court's ruling constitutes a serious offense. AAMS has declined to comment on the issue. |
