Online poker is a phenomenon that isn't going to be going away anytime soon. Every month seems to bring with it another new online poker website offering its services to an eager online gambling public. Online poker rooms, such as Party Poker, carry more name recognition than even the biggest of full-fledged, multi-game online casinos, not just because they go public on the London Stock Exchange but because they are popular enough by themselves that launching an IPO can only increase their revenues; revenues are not dependent on how the company's shares perform on any stock exchange anywhere on this planet of ours.

What is it about online poker that distinguishes it from the other online casino companies out there? It probably has to do with the fact that at a regular online casino, there are so many games to be played that a gambler's attention is split and thus they - the gambler - doesn't attach himself or herself to the casino with any sense of loyalty. However, online poker rooms, while deeply impersonal, provide the advantage of almost always playing against other humans, engaging in chat conversations while playing the game, and turning an online poker room into something more than just an online casino site: it becomes more like a club.

Of course, online poker rooms have their limitations. Online poker is not necessarily as fun as playing live poker in casino or in your living room or garage. You can't bluff, there isn't any such thing as true deck shuffling, and an internet connection going down means you can lose a game you might have otherwise won. Still, online poker rooms are surpassing regular online casino sites on so many levels that analysts are sometimes amazed that an online casino with a specific focus, like an online poker room, can do as well as it does.
