The Dutch authorities have been facing issues of law as this week brought the EU and its own judiciary issued warnings regarding online casino gambling. Gunter Verheugen, European Commission Vice President, gave the group a warning regarding the plan for Holland Casino to exclusively operate online casino games under a three year license. Although it would be run as part of a state monopoly, the Commission warned that it believes this online casinos gambling could cause trouble.

The policy, according to the Commission, would be incompatible with European Union regulations with regards to freedom of providing online casino gambling services in other member states. This does not come as a surprise, considering that The Netherlands courts have a history of being the stage for EU 'sovereignty' litigation involving international betting groups. The second main case addressed relates to a ruling from The Netherlands Administrative Court of Breda which has the potential to effect and influence future decisions regarding online casino gambling by the Dutch government.

The finding thus far states that the EU Commission feels that the exclusion of other online casino betting companies from other EU states is not properly addressed. Although the Dutch government claimed that its state monopoly on online casino gaming was in line with achieving its goals. The EU Commission ruled that the Dutch government had not proved their case, and therefore was not recommended.
