Some people run marathons. Others participate in fund raising community walks. But for Jay 'Patch' Platt, only a famous online casino, Golden Palace, could help him do the impossible - swim the 1.5 mile distance from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco with his hands and feet tied in order to raise awareness for Marines in need of help. Online casinos fans can surely appreciate the bravery and courage, as well as the passion it took for this retired US Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant to do this daring feat. And Golden Palace Online Casino was there to help make it happen.

'I was looking for something challenging to do as a way of raising awareness to help the Marines who are coming back wounded from the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan,' said Platt, who was medically retired from the Marines due to complications from cancer. 'Having lost an eye myself, I somewhat know how they feel, and I wanted to do something to help. That's when I found out about the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, an organization that helps Marines and Sailors injured in the war against terrorism.' His inspiration was an article written about two other men who accomplished the swim, Italian swimmer Alberto Christini and fitness guru Jack Lalanne. After reading it and deciding to try the challenge himself, he asked the online casino to sponsor the swim and Golden Palace agreed. The online casino commented on Platt's achievement.

'We are very pleased to have been able to support Jay and the Semper Fi fund,' said Golden Palace CEO Richard Rowe. 'We congratulate Jay on his successful swim and as always we are awed by the courage and determination of the men and women in the Marines and every arm of the military for putting themselves in harm's way to preserve peace.' Online casino fans can be inspired by this story, as well as other online casino operators, to do good for worthy causes when the opportunity arises.
